Is used to explain a thing that is in the past.

Ex: I was young.

Question: WAS I so funny?
Answer: Yes, YOU WERE funny/No. YOU WERE NOT FUNNY


Question: WERE WE students?
Answer: Yes, WE WERE students/No, WE WERE NOT STUDENT

Was not: wasn't
Were not: weren't
